Educational Effectiveness

Mission Statement

It is our vision to train God-called men and women for twenty-first century leadership in tough places. We want to foster in the next generation of leaders a desire to go into difficult places, and to face courageously the challenges that confront us there.

Institutional Goals

The following goals represent the strategy by which CBT will fulfill its purpose and carry out its mission:

  1. Provide an accredited curriculum that correlates the disciplines of biblical, theological, historical, and educational studies with relevant skills and contemporary methodologies.
  2. Provide a faculty that is qualified by academic degrees, practical experience, and spiritual maturity.
  3. Provide an environment to students for spiritual growth and maturity in every aspect of life.
  4. Encourage and facilitate active church and ministry involvement for every student.
  5. Support the purpose and objectives of the institution’s parent organization, the Canadian National Baptist Convention.

Seminary Program Learning Objectives

  1. Scripture: Graduates will have gained skills for in-depth study and interpretation of the Old and New Testaments, including the biblical languages, interpretation, and application.
  2. Doctrine: Graduates will have demonstrated a critical awareness and life application of their understanding of Christian history, theology, and ethics.
  3. Outreach: Graduates will have learned to engage lostness through evangelism, church planting, and cross-cultural missions.
  4. Discipleship: Graduates will have grown in skills of disciple-making and teaching.
  5. Ministry Skills: Graduates will have gained skills for shepherding God’s people.
  6. Counseling: Graduates will have gained a better understanding of self and what it takes to counsel others.
  7. Ministry Practice: Graduates will have integrated knowledge and experience through ministry practice.
  8. Christlikeness: Graduates will have grown in Christlikeness.

College Program Learning Objectives

  1. Scripture: Graduates will serve the Lord from a solid foundation of Bible knowledge, understanding how to interpret the Bible and how to live out the Christian faith within a biblical worldview.
  2. Doctrine: Graduates will understand the doctrines of the Christian faith from an evangelical perspective.
  3. Ministry Skills: Graduates will serve in the local church in such ways as preaching, teaching, leading worship, and shepherding.
  4. Outreach: Graduates will share the gospel in their home culture and understand mission efforts around the world.
  5. Ministry Practice: Graduates will exercise ministry skills learned through a field practicum.
  6. General Subjects: Graduates will understand a number of general subject areas from a Christian perspective.
  7. Spiritual Growth and Leadership: Graduates will have grown in Christlikeness.

 

The Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary & College is committed to providing theological education and ministry training of the highest caliber. We carefully monitor and regularly assess the educational effectiveness of each degree program. Here are some of the common measures used by seminaries and Bible colleges to demonstrate the success of student learning. Additional information is available upon request to the Academic Dean.

Retention Rates

In the last five years, 86% of college students and 86% of seminary students who began a degree program continue after their first year of study.

Graduation Rates

From 2011 to 201570% of entering seminary students and 68% of entering college students have completed the degree program in which they were enrolled within 6 years.

Placement Rates

Graduates from our college and seminary have been highly successful in finding placements related to their degree programs. Over the last 5 years, 73% of our college graduates and 92% of our seminary graduates have found jobs within the first year after graduation.
