Professor of Preaching & Pastoral Ministry

CBT is looking for a full-time, residential professor, whose primary areas of teaching would be in preaching and pastoral ministry. The ability to teach in other academic areas is also valued. Instruction would be conducted at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, in person and online.  All professors fulfill various administrative duties such as faculty advising, curriculum oversight, and serving on academic committees.

The start date would be approximately July 1, 2024.

Qualified candidates will have

  • Committed Christian character and evidence of a call to Christian ministry.
  • The ability to affirm the school’s doctrinal statement. CNBC-Statement-of-Faith.pdf (cbtsc.ca) (CBT has the same Statement of Faith as its parent denomination, the Canadian National Baptist Convention.)
  • A PhD or equivalent in the appropriate academic disciplines and some successful teaching experience.
  • Desire and ability to mentor students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Cross-cultural or international work or ministry experience.
  • Ministry experience in the local church.
  • Recognizable leadership skills, especially in higher education or administration.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to serve as a team player.
  • Strong communication skills in speaking and writing.
  • Experience or potential in research, writing and publishing.

Chief Financial Officer

Organization: Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary & College

Responsible for all aspects of CBTS&C day-to-day financial operations. These include oversight of financial systems and controls; transaction capturing and reporting of financial information to both internal and external users; management of institutional resources including aspects of human resources, risk management, project management, policy development, etc.; and, general administration over CBT business affairs, information technology, and ancillary operations of CBT.

Functions – A. Financial Leadership

  • maintain the financial health and integrity of CBTS&C.
  • oversee all aspects of day-to-day financial operations carried out by Business Office staff (payroll, accounts payable & receivable, student billing, donation records, banking, etc.).
  • work with the President and department managers to develop annual operating and capital budgets.
  • administrate various levels of government tax, employee, and charity legislation with respect to CBT operations.
  • ensure the design, operation, and maintenance of appropriate systems, policies, and procedures for the processing and recording of financial transactions of CBT, for the safeguarding of assets, for the maintenance of fiduciary responsibilities, and for expenditure control.
  • act as custodian for all contracts, leases, and agreements entered into by CBT, ensuring that the financial implications of these contracts are effectively managed.
  • negotiate annual insurance contract, ensuring that CBT coverage is adequate; ensure that risks are identified and managed effectively.
  • oversee major CBT projects that involve financial commitments, such as construction of capital assets or acquisition of data management systems.
  • ensure effective management of CBT cash and equivalent assets and monitor investments and borrowings to facilitate maximum benefit to CBT while minimizing related risks.
  • produce timely and accurate CBT internal monthly financial statements. Such statements include operating, capital, restricted funds, projects, and any other reports that assist decision-makers in managing budgets and financial assets for which they are responsible.
  • produce year-end financial statements for audit purposes and for meeting reporting requirements of external bodies.
  • other responsibilities assigned from time to time by the President.


Functions – B. Administrative Leadership

  • serve as a member of the President’s Administrative Team (PAT) which meets bi-weekly for the purpose of strategic planning and implementation and evaluation of CBT initiatives.
  • supervise and manage team of direct reports. This includes mentoring them toward the development of goals and objectives for their areas of responsibility, ensuring they are adequately trained and motivated to perform their duties with skill and confidence.
  • assist all department managers with all hiring processes.
  • acts as Privacy Officer for CBT.
  • perform annual internal audit for the CBT Abuse Prevention Policy.
  • develop and manage policies related to HR, IT, abuse prevention, privacy, etc.
  • undertake committee responsibilities for projects such as accreditation, as assigned by the President.
  • participate in the semi-annual meetings of the CBT Board of Trustees, as requested by the President.
  • keep current in areas that may impact CBT’s well-being in financial and administrative areas, including an understanding of best practices as they relate to the responsibilities of this position.
  • other responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the President.

 

Relationships:

  • maintain good working relationships with corporate bank account manager, attorney, vendors, outside agencies such as CRA and CCCC, and Hill Country Board of Directors.
  • maintain good working relationship with CNBC and other denominational agencies.
  • develop and maintain good working relationships with PAT members and all CBT department managers generally to ensure all have an understanding of policies, procedures and financial reports.
  • liaise with external auditors to co-ordinate the annual audit of CBT financial statements and controls and procedures.
  • source and develop relationships with peers at other educational institutions to benefit CBT.

Requirements:

  • Education: University degree preferably majoring in accounting or business Administration.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of direct work-related experience, preferably including supervisory experience.
  • Skills: Strong financial and analytical skills; strong communication skills, both oral and written; organized and detail-oriented; effective relational and servant leadership skills; proficiency with accounting programs (esp. QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite; personal discretion and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality over sensitive information.
  • Other: Philosophy of life must be in accord with the policies, objectives and doctrinal statement of CBTS&C. Must possess the highest standards of personal integrity, a strong work ethic, and a faith-inspired outlook.

Director of Library Services

The Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary & College has an opening for the position of Director of Library Services. This position is responsible for the efficient management and direction of the library, including operations, budget, supervision and direction of library staff, and collection development. The Library Director is a full member of the faculty and works under the supervision of the Academic Dean.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides instruction in library resources to students, faculty, and staff in formats suitable to class, groups, and individuals.
  • Ensures that reference services are available and circulation activities and other library functions are effectively performed during the hours of library operation.
  • Selects resources for purchase and addition to the library collection. Works with faculty to ensure library purchases reflect the needs of faculty and support of the curriculum.
  • Responsible for ensuring the optimal functioning of the integrated automation system; ensures appropriate preservation of essential data and records.
  • Supervises the timely and accurate processing, cataloguing, and circulation of library resources.
  • Supervises library staff, coordinates activities and absences, arranges for appropriate training, and provides communication to staff regarding actions and decisions of the administration.
  • Ensures that required reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends in library science, requests appropriate personal professional development.
  • Maintains communications and membership as appropriate with professional associations, other librarians, and library consortia.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • MLS or equivalent from an ALA or CLA accredited institution required. Candidates working toward an MLS or equivalent degree may be considered.
  • Experience in an academic library, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position.
  • Experience with post-secondary instruction is desirable.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and direct skilled professionals and semi-skilled assistants.
  • Awareness of theological and biblical literature, preferably an additional relevant master’s degree.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess the qualifications to teach in our college and/or seminary.

IT Assistant

Organization: The Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary and College Location: 200 Seminary View, Cochrane, Alberta Salary/Wage: TBD, 5 hours/wk Department: IT Closing Date: December 1, 2023 Responsibilities: To assist in managing the CBT computing systems and provide technical support to users. Relationships: Work with all CBT staff and faculty to provide for their computing technology needs. Assist in Functions:
  • Provide direct user support and desk side assistance
  • Support in IT infrastructure projects at CBT
  • Provide support to Smart Classrooms
  • Set up equipment for employee usage
  • Schedule Zoom Room classes and meetings
  • Support users with Microsoft Outlook, Word, One Drive issues
  • Support CNBC day to day IT issues and projects
  • On-call backup to the IT Support Specialist
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Requirements:
  • Able to work responsibly, fairly, harmoniously and maintain open and clear communication in all CBT relationships
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to matters sensitive to CBT
  • Willing to learn new technologies.

Recommended Technical skills in:
  • Computer Hardware/Software troubleshooting and repair (A+ certification not required but preferred)

  • Wireless networking/Wi-Fi
