Join us as we explore the historical context of art and music, from the early church, through the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Enlightenment, to the (post)modern era. Savour the sights as we unwrap the gifts of galleries through the ages. Listen to the soundtrack of history.
Each artistic creation—whatever form it takes—is to some degree a reflection of its creator, who in turn is shaped by the time and place in which he or she lives. A composer’s environment shapes his musical style. Specific historical events, too, shape the creation and content of a work of art or piece of music, and that’s what this course is about: the creation of art in direct response to contemporary historical events. This, then, will be a course about connections: the connections between artists, composers and historical events—events that shaped the artists’ lives and inspired the creation of the works under study.
Join us for Chapel every Wednesday during each semester. Every service includes worship and preaching from the word of God.
