Seminary Graduate
The Master of Biblical Studies (MBS) is a graduate-level academic degree program designed to equip students with the skills for in-depth study and interpretation of the Bible. Designed with a high standard of academic rigor, the focus of the degree is to gain biblical content knowledge and skills in biblical interpretation. As such, the MBS would be of most interest to students desiring to increase their knowledge and appreciation of the Christian Scriptures through intensive study. This program would thus strengthen lay people and leaders serving in church, para-church, or other mission agencies. Typical completion time is 2-3 years full-time.
In terms of ministry preparation, the MBS degree would strengthen someone who has already obtained practical ministry training on a Bible college or seminary level, or someone who had already obtained ministry knowledge and skills through extensive ministry experience. To such knowledge and skills of ministering to people, this course of instruction would add considerable bible content.
To prepare for the Capstone Research Project, at least one Bible book study must correspond to the testament chosen for the research project. Students are encouraged to take book studies in their chosen biblical language when possible.
Capstone Research Project is a 2-credit hour requirement for the MBS degree which must be written in the final semester of the student’s program. It consists of a directed study with a member of the Biblical Studies faculty and will result in a research paper to be evaluated by the project supervisor. The purpose of the project is to demonstrate competency in understanding and interpreting the Bible accurately. Being a directed study, the student will pay a directed study fee in addition to the required tuition. If the project extends beyond the academic term, a continuance fee will also be charged.
