Seminary Certificate in Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy

The opportunity exists for you to get training and preparation to serve in the field of Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy.

There are three options for you to accomplish this goal:

Option 1

Seminary Certificate in Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy (SCSC/C) - 21 Credits

This program of studies is intended to introduce skills for professional practice, disciplines for self-knowledge and self-care, leadership skills, and the ability to engage diverse sectors so that graduates are able to provide spiritual care or chaplaincy work in a variety of contexts. 

The SCSC/C is being offered by the Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary (CBT) in partnership with four other graduate schools in Alberta: Ambrose Seminary, Newman Theological College, and St. Stephens College. Some of the courses listed will be provided through one of the sister schools. 

Certificate Outcomes

  1. Students who complete the SCSC/C will have gained skills in leadership and spiritual care/chaplaincy. 
  2. Students who complete the SCSC/C will have gained understanding of issues related to ethics and diversity. 
  3. Students who complete the SCSC/C will have integrated knowledge, skills, and experience through a spiritual care/chaplaincy field education practicum.
  4. Students who complete the SCSC/C will have grown in Christlikeness.

Certificate Requirements

  1. The prerequisite for this certificate is a BA degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited college or university.
  2. A total of 21 credit hours is required for the completion of the SCSC/C.

Available

A variety of course delivery options are available. Consult the academic schedule at each institution for details. 

Students of the five partnering institutions register for courses directly with the institution through which the courses are offered. Payment for each course is arranged directly with the institution at which each course is offered. Upon completion of the course, credits for that course can be transferred back into the program in which the student is registered.

Option 2

Master of Christian Ministry

The Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy Track is designed to give graduates a basic foundation for a variety of roles in spiritual care or chaplaincy ministries.

Option 3

Collaborative Program

CBT Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy courses for transfer credit through the Collaborative Program of Studies in Spiritual Care take courses as an Occasional Student from CBT and transfer the credits to one of the other four seminaries in the Collaborative.
