Position Summary

The Families and Children Pastor will develop and lead a comprehensive ministry to children and their families that is rooted in the gospel, biblically sound, and aligned with the mission and values of Kathleen Baptist Church. This includes oversight of all programming, volunteer leadership, and spiritual development strategies for children and parents. The Children and Families Pastor will be a team player who works closely with the KBC pastoral staff and church body, and be available to assist with church events and service opportunities. This position requires a 40-hour work week with allowances for seasonal/event recovery time. Regular office hours: Mon – Thurs, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; services on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Qualifications

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life that personifies the pastoral qualifications of 1 Tim 3: 1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
  • Agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and the doctrines of the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • A calling to family and children’s ministry, with a shepherd’s heart for kids and parents alike.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; seminary or theological education preferred.
  • A history (3+ years) of experience in children’s or family ministry leadership (church or parachurch).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills.
  • Able to recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers in a team environment.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check and adhere to all child safety policies.

Job Summary:

The Hope Mission Rescue Van (HMRV) program provides mobile outreach services to vulnerable community members in need of assistance and support. The program partners with first responders such as law enforcement, emergency medical services and fire rescue services to:

  1. provide a more appropriate response to non-emergency crisis situations; and
  2. to free up first responder services to respond to more appropriate emergency calls. In addition to this, the program responds to calls from businesses and the general public through a mobile cell phone that goes directly to our teams.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Using a trauma informed lens, support vulnerable community members on a street level by helping meet their basic needs of food, clothing, transportation to shelter and/or other community resources.
  • Increase awareness of and provide referrals to social supports and services available from various agencies, organizations and groups within Calgary.
  • Drive within the City of Calgary in response to non-emergency distress or crisis incidents.
  • Drive within the City of Calgary to provide general support service to vulnerable community members in the absence of a crisis call dispatch.
  • Increase public awareness of Hope Mission and its work through mobile services.
  • Liaise with first responders (EMS, CPS, Fire Rescue) to take over or hand over crisis situations as the case may be.
  • Communicate with any program partners to consult and determine an appropriate response to crisis events.
  • Ensure the HMRV vehicle is washed, cleaned, fueled, stocked, maintained, and ready to be used and shown on a moment’s notice.
  • Communicate with logistics support staff on vehicle maintenance concerns.
  • Communicate with Program Manager about staff welfare concerns.
  • Complete the HMRV Daily Stats sheet at the end of every shift.
  • Complete necessary incident reports for every critical incident.
  • Communicate a brief of the day’s events to other teams at the end of shift debrief.
  • Assist with additional tasks as required by Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Full Class 5 Alberta driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract and 5 years accident free driving record.
  • Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check and child welfare check is required.
  • First Aid and Non Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset, but is provided if needed.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Excellent day and night vision and sharp sense of hearing.
  • Capacity to adjust to rapid changes in temperature in and out of vehicle.
  • High degree of competency in boundaries, assertiveness, accountability and maximizing opportunities.
  • High level of care and compassion for culturally marginalized and underprivileged people.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Full mobility and capacity to work with and care for repurposed ambulance vehicles.

Key competencies:

  • Emotional intelligence and capacity to respond quickly and effectively to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and interact compassionately with intoxicated individuals or/and individuals with poor mental health.
  • Skill in coaching, facilitating, and training for life change and character development.

Other Requirements:

  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.

Pastoral Responsibilities

Preaching & Teaching

  • Exposit the word of God in weekly sermons. Accurately handling the word of truth.
  • Oversee weekly Bible study & various congregational ministries.

Pastoral Care

  • Provide biblical counselling, regular visitation, prayer ministry etc.
  • Perform baptisms, conduct funerals, weddings & other congregational events where Pastor is needed.

Discipleship

  • Disciple & train up individuals & leaders for the work of ministry, with intention & regularity.
  • Equip disciples to make new disciples & leaders to make new leaders.
  • Lead by example by loving God & loving people, living out a life devoted to following Jesus.

Administration

  • Work alongside leadership & the board in the operational affairs of the church.
  • Participate in monthy board meetings.
  • Schedule Elder meetings to discuss the spiritual leadership of the church.

Qualifications

  • A devoted Christ believer & follower able to articulate the true biblical Gospel of our Lord & Savior.
  • Meets the biblical qualifications for an elder as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
  • An affirmed calling to Pastoral ministry.
  • Agreement with CCF Statement of Faith
  • Leadership, communication & interpersonal skills are highly valued.
  • A completed theological education from an accredited Institution.
  • 5 years of Pastoral experience.

Status: Full-Time Salaried Assistant/Associate Pastor

Job Vision: The Pastor of Emerging Generations will partner with the staff team and Ministry Council of ZBCC in giving general guidance and direction to the congregation, with a special focus on engaging and supporting emerging generations, their families, and the volunteers within these ministry areas. The primary task of this position is to invite kids, students, and young adults into a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ, characterized by deep discipleship and life on mission with Him. The pastor will pursue meaningful relationships with students that help point them to Christ through His Word and seek to develop teams of volunteer ministry leaders who do the same.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Presence:

  • Pray for the body (Col 1:3-5) and set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity (1 Tim 4:12).
  • Be present and personally engaged in events for children, youth, and young adults, making every effort to get to know students and their families well.
  • Foster a welcoming environment for believing and unbelieving guests/visitors and initiate appropriate follow-up.
  • Provide necessary pastoral care, including pastoral counselling, visitation, conflict resolution and general encouragement to children, students, and families, as well as the leadership of these ministries.

2. Leadership:

  • Direct the efforts of Youth and Young Adult ministries to choose/develop rich curricula for various discipling spaces and plan fun, engaging, and meaningful regular events and activities for students.
  • Teach and work with leaders of all discipleship ministries (e.g., through the annual Discipleship Summit) to plan cooperative and complementary teaching using our established Discipleship Scope and Pathway.
  • Help align the calendars and the priorities of discipleship ministries, ensuring that every regular participant has an ongoing opportunity to mature in their faith and aiding in the transition of students from one stage to the next and into early adulthood.

3. Equipping:

  • Encourage students to explore their gifting, connecting them with screened and trustworthy adults and ministry leaders for inter-generational mentoring relationships and serving opportunities.
  • Invite congregants of all ages to value and participate in ministry to and with emerging generations, helping to train and equip them for leadership and serving opportunities.
  • Work alongside administrative staff and volunteer teams to develop effective strategies and systems so that children’s, youth and young adult ministries have sufficient volunteers to be safe and effective. This includes training volunteers and helping to ensure that all aspects of the ministry are carried out within approved policies.

Other Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Attend worship and prayer gatherings, as well as staff meetings and other meetings/events relevant to the position.
  • Become certified as a Plan to Protect® trainer for ZBCC.
  • Perform other duties as required in consultation with the Senior Pastor and/or Ministry Council, possibly including occasional preaching in Sunday worship gatherings.
  • Continuing education is encouraged, with priority given to conferences/programs relevant to the position.
  • Participate in annual meetings and other gatherings of North American Baptist/Alberta Baptist Association ministry leaders, especially those pertaining to their ministry focus.
  • Involvement in the community outside the church (e.g. a Community League) is welcome, and preserving margin for these opportunities is encouraged.

Accountability:

  • Day-to-day supervision by the Senior Pastor.
  • Accountable to the Ministry Council.

Qualifications:

  • A vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrating the qualities of an overseer (1 Tim 3:1-7).
  • Able and willing to affirm ZBCC’s Statement of Beliefs and Membership Covenant.
  • A record of faithful service as a local church member and relevant ministry/leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with Plan to Protect® policies and practices is an asset.
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited evangelical post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.
