Gender and racial diversity are rooted in God’s creative activity, for all humans are created in God’s image, both male and female.1 No matter which race, all people come from the same origin2 and are precious in God’s sight. The Old Testament teaches of all nations coming to worship Yahweh, the God of Israel,3 and the congregation in heaven is described as a community “from every nation, tribe, people, and tongue” together worshiping the Lamb who was slain for their salvation.4 As such, persons of both genders, each ethnic group and socio-economic status all have equal standing “in Christ.” Those in Christ, are all “descendants of Abraham and heirs according to promise.”5 God shows no partiality, and anyone who believes on him is a precious part of His community, a child of the heavenly Father.6 Salvation is available to all who would reach out to Him in repentance and faith.7
God has given His Spirit to indwell all true believers as the distinguishing mark of being genuine disciples of Christ.8 The Spirit brings forth fruits of holiness in each disciple’s life and empowers them for kingdom service.9 The spiritual gifts that God bestows to edify His body are varied and are distributed “individually just as He wills.”10 God has also given Spirit-empowered leaders to the church to equip “the saints” for ministry.11
The mission statement of CBTS&C is “training God-called men and women for 21st century leadership in tough places.” Training for such leadership is the primary task of our institution. We value God’s people no matter their gender, race, or ethnic and cultural background. This value is clearly seen in the makeup of our student body. We embrace this as one of the distinct strengths of our institution.
CBTS&C is owned and operated by the Canadian National Baptist Convention (CNBC) which now has congregations in all six time zones, all ten provinces, and in two of Canada’s three territories. The makeup of the CNBC is markedly inter-ethnic, and CBTS&C embraces the ethnic and cultural diversity found in our constituent congregations. Our desire is that our student body, faculty, staff, and trustees will reflect our constituency, valuing the diversity found there.
Hiring staff, administering work schedules, and payment of wages at CBTS&C all conform to applicable government regulations. We provide equal opportunities for employment, promotion, and assignment to all employees and applicants for employment. We will not discriminate overrace, colour, national origin, gender, age, or disability, except when there is a bona fide occupational qualification involved. As a religious organization, we reserve the right to establish employment criteria based on lifestyle, personal conduct, and religious beliefs and affiliations.
CBTS&C also values diversity among its faculty in terms of ethnicity, gender, nationality, education, and ministry experience. Within the school’s mission and statement of faith, we will give due consideration to these elements when hiring new faculty.
