Community Life

Whether you are a homeschool student or a seasoned ministry/marketplace leader, participating in a formal educational program, for the first time or returning after significant time away from the classroom, can be overwhelming and stressful. Our Student Life team is here to help.

Our team is here to provide you with the information and support you will need to get settled, not only into the CBT community but into the town of Cochrane (which is approximately 5 km away) as well. How do we do this? We offer international students important information on ways to get integrated into our wonderful community. We connect students to important community agencies and strategic partners that can help you find jobs, meet other newcomers to Canada, and even strengthen your English language skills.

Between our local community partners and the resources our Student Life office carries, we will help to get you connected with medical and mental health resources and navigate the business sector to buy groceries and everyday essentials. Let us know what you need so we can help!

Student Life is here to support all CBT students. The members of our team include our Student Council, the Women in Ministry Team Lead, and the Student Life Director. We help you build friendships and community during your years at CBT. We host various special events such as sports nights, mountain hikes, or special seasonal gatherings and always encourage family participation!  We advocate for you and your concerns with our school administration. We value the trust given to our team, and we work hard to ensure that trust is cultivated as the semester goes on.

If you choose to be a distance learner or commuter student, know that you matter to us too. Our virtual Distance Learner cohort meets once per month to pray, chat about homework or assignments, and have some fun getting to know one another. No matter where you are or what circumstances brought you to our school, know that our deepest desire is that you will feel cared about, but more importantly, feel cared for.

Incoming Students

Student Life actively participates in the orientation process of new students in the fall and spring semesters. We provide incoming students with important information and resources for settling into school, Cochrane, and Alberta. We focus on the needs of international students as they arrive, including transportation from the airport to campus, and getting them settled into housing. We strive to connect new students with returning students and families for friendship and interaction.

We also participate in a day set aside to allow high school and potential new students to tour and interact with faculty and staff in hopes of recruiting and registering new students each fall/spring.

CSBS&C Family Picnic

Kick-off Family Picnic

Every year at the beginning of the fall semester we prepare a family picnic where our students and their families can get to know each other and also get to know our faculty, staff and their families. It is a fun time and a great way to kick off the academic year!

Friday Fellowship at Canadian Baptist Seminary & College

Fellowships

Fellowship is very important and highly valued by our CBT community. We enjoy having involvement from our students, staff and faculty, local churches and church plants, ministries and organizations that host these fellowships. It’s a great time to update and provide students with announcements of activities and community events. Throughout the year we have themes such as: Thanksgiving meal, Chili Cook-off, Easter meal, Mexican Fiestas, pancake breakfast, pizza day, and more. We invite families of students, guests on campus, potential new students, and supportive leaders to attend these fellowships.

Chapel Service

Weekly Chapel

Chapel services are typically conducted weekly throughout the semester on Wednesdays. The purpose of chapel is to encourage students, staff, and faculty in their spiritual walk through corporate worship, preaching, and inspiration in Christian Ministry. Students are encouraged to attend all chapel services. To watch recorded chapel messages, visit cbtsc.ca/chapel.

Student Council at Canadian Baptist Seminary & College

Student Council

Student Life works with Student Council to plan for and initiate activities and opportunities for students. The Student Council meets regularly with the President and Student Life Director, as well as on their own, to discuss campus life and needs, to pray, plan events, and host activities that help meet needs and foster community. They lead in chapel each semester and provide leadership to the student body. They also lead an online community through the Discord app.

Women in Ministry

Women in Ministry

We spend much prayer and energy on making sure the women (students, wives, faculty, and staff) on campus are connected, encouraged, equipped, and are given the opportunity to build community.

We have a women’s event night once a month and a retreat in the fall. Involvement in this ministry will equip women for a life of ministry in their churches and communities. We create opportunities for fun, prayer, and spiritual growth. We spend time connected one-on-one with women as much as possible.

Student Life

Recreational

Every semester we offer our students the opportunity to participate in intramurals. Students have enjoyed playing soccer and basketball in the past. Hikes are also a great way to take a break from books, get out and connect with other students. We try to plan at least one hike per semester.
